The 2026 Grammy Awards highlighted Finnish music creators on several fronts. Six Finnish music makers were nominated, and producer Jonas W. Karlsson went on to win an award.

The 2026 Grammy Awards once again provided a stage for leading Finnish music professionals, who were represented in both classical music categories and international production work. In total, six Finnish nominees were featured, one of whom also received an award.

Classical music brought visibility to Finns

Tässä sujuva englanninkielinen käännös ilman muotoiluja ja aiempien osioiden tyyliä jatkaen:

There was strong Finnish representation in the classical music categories, with three Finnish names nominated. Conductors Susanna Mälkki and Esa-Pekka Salonen were nominated in some of the most prominent categories in their field, and alongside them, the late composer Kaija Saariaho also received a nomination.

These nominations once again highlighted the global recognition and influence of Finnish art music as a significant part of the performing arts landscape.

Finnish producers on Burna Boy’s album

In the realm of popular music, the work of Finnish creators was heard on Burna Boy’s internationally successful album No Sign of Weakness. The track Empty Chairs showcased the expertise of Finnish producers and music creators, as Daniel Okas (Danitello) and Santeri Kauppinen (MD$) were part of the production team.

The nomination within one of the international album categories demonstrated that Finnish producers are increasingly present in global pop and rhythm music production.

Jonas W. Karlsson brings home the Grammy Award

One of the six Finnish nominees went on to win an award. The Grammy was presented to producer Jonas W. Karlsson, whose work was featured on Arkai‘s album Brightside, which won the award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.

The win was Karlsson’s second, placing him among Finland’s most successful Grammy recipients, now tied with Esa-Pekka Salonen. His previous Grammy came in 2020 for his work on John Legend’s album Bigger Love.

    Finnish expertise is heard worldwide

The 2026 Grammy Awards further underscored the broad impact that Finnish music creators, producers and composers have on the international stage.

Nominations in the top classical music categories, production work on global artists’ albums, and Jonas W. Karlsson’s notable award all demonstrate that the work of Finnish music professionals is both visible and valued in some of the world’s most respected contexts.

Finnish expertise has much to offer the international music industry – and hopefully there will be even more to celebrate in the years to come.
