Fall is an active time on the record release front. GramexPress rounded up some of the albums that have been or will be released this month, with sounds ranging from pop to metal and rock to rap.

In the first week of October, new music was released by artists such as Arppa (Muovipussi kummittelee / Johanna Kustannus), who makes jazzy nostalgia pop; Gasellit rapper Tuomas Pietikäinen aka Dj Ibusal (Mukava paikka / Skorpioni) and Joose Keskitalo (Tähdet palaavat paikoilleen / Helmi Levyt), a preacher of esoteric folk who is celebrating his 20th anniversary.

Among the foreign acts that have released albums are experimental rock band The Smile (Cutouts / XL), which includes members of Radiohead; Blood Incantation (Absolute Elsewhere / Century Media), which combines death metal with space rock; and Coldplay (Moon Music / Parlophone, Atlantic), which played four concerts at the Olympic Stadium in July.

Moon Music broke records in its first week of release. It sold more records in the UK than any other since Adele’s 30 (2021) and put Coldplay at the top of the album charts for the 10th time. Only Abba, Michael Jackson and Queen, and of course the Beatles, have achieved the same feat.

The second week of October saw the release of skate punk giants Offspring’s 11th album Supercharged (Concord), US pop star Charli XCX’s remix album Brat and it’s Completely Different but Also Still Brat (Atlantic), and the sixth album from psychedelic extreme metal band Orange Pazuzu, Muuntautuja (Nuclear Blast).

This week, genre-hopping retro-indie star Litku Klemetti (Funny Girl / Is This Art!), melodic death doom band Swallow The Sun (Shining / Century Media) and Ensiferum (Winter Strom / Metal Blade), who combine Kalevala folklore with metal, celebrate their album releases.

For a more international sound, check out Australian singer Kylie Minogue’s 17th album Tension II (BMG), punk rockers Amyl and the Sniffers’ third album Cartoon Darkness (Virgin), US alternative rock icons Pixies’ 10th album The Night the Zombies Came (BMG) and English electro group Underworld’s 11th album Strawberry Hotel (Virgin).

At the turn of the month, there are new albums from Mirella (TBA / Universal), who became a streaming sensation with her song “Timanttei”; action rock veterans The Flaming Sideburns (Rocket Science: Original Artifacts from The Psychedelic Era 1996-1999 / Svart) and gothic rock heavyweights Cure (Songs of a Lost World / Universal).
