Gold and platinum certification thresholds revised
Music Producers – IFPI Finland has revised the certification criteria for gold and platinum singles. The new certification thresholds came into effect on 1 July 2026.
The revision was prompted by the need to align the thresholds with changes in music consumption and the current market environment in Finland. The decision was made by the Board of Music Producers – IFPI Finland.
The new thresholds are not applied retrospectively. Gold and platinum certifications awarded previously will continue to be assessed according to the certification thresholds that were in force at the time of the recording’s release.
Gold and platinum certifications are well-established benchmarks within the Finnish music industry, recognising both the commercial success of recordings and their ability to reach audiences. Updating the certification thresholds reflects the ongoing transformation of music consumption in the streaming era.
New certification thresholds
- Gold certification: 3,000,000 streams (previously 2,000,000 streams)
- Platinum certification: 6,000,000 streams (previously 4,000,000 streams)
In addition, the board of Music Producers – IFPI Finland recommends that any physical gold and platinum award plaques presented to artists should be tied to the release timeline as follows:
- Gold certification achieved within one year of release
- Platinum certification achieved within two years of release
Music Producers – IFPI Finland is a member organisation of Gramex.
