The internationally renowned and highly esteemed Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir has joined Gramex. This artistically ambitious choir aims to promote the heritage of Estonian music while performing the world’s finest choral works.

The internationally acclaimed Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir promotes Estonian culture through its music and strives to offer audiences world-class musical experiences. The choir’s artistic director is Tõnu Kaljuste, who also founded the choir in 1981, building upon the singers of the Ellerhein Chamber Choir.

The choir performs both Estonian and international music, with a repertoire best known for the works of Estonian composers such as Arvo Pärt and Veljo Tormis.

“We also have a passion for working with musicians around the world. We want to tell the story of our small country and its rich culture through music.” members of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.

Over the years, the choir’s recordings have garnered much international recognition. They have even received 16 Grammy nominations.

“The recordings of Arvo Pärt’s works have won numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards; in 2007 and 2014.”

The award-winning recordings, Arvo Pärt’s Da Pacem (recorded with conductor Paul Hillier; Harmonia Mundi) and Pärt’s Adam’s Lament (with conductor Tõnu Kaljuste; ECM), have been performed around the world.

“Our Pärt recordings undoubtedly have the largest audience. However, our recordings of composers such as Tormis, Rachmaninov, Kõrvits, and Grigorjeva are just as important to us.”

Staying at the forefront of classical music requires continuous effort and investment. A stable financial foundation is essential, and one of the key sources of income comes from remunerations generated when the choir’s recordings are played on radio stations or as background music worldwide.

The choir decided to join Gramex because of its international reach and efficiency.

“We believe that Gramex’s genuine global outreach, industry expertise, and efficiency in collecting music remunerations will help us build a successful career and allow us to focus on creating new music.”

“Financial sustainability ensures that the choir can continue to make new high-quality recordings.”

Cross-border cooperation is and has been important to the choir in many ways, both artistically and administratively. Cooperation with Gramex is a natural part of this continuum.

“Through our collaboration, we can together emphasize the uniqueness of our cultures and share the joy of music with the world. We invite everyone to create and share bold, innovative projects that enrich the cultural landscape both here and globally.”
