What is ISRC?
The ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is a unique track identifier that helps ensure recordings reported by broadcasters and other users are correctly identified. An ISRC code functions as a recording’s fingerprint; no two recordings should have the same ISRC code.
The phonogram producer is responsible for assigning a unique ISRC code to each track they produce and release in either digital or physical format.
To create ISRC codes for phonograms and music videos, producers can apply for an ISRC registrant code from Musiikkituottajat IFPI Finland, which is responsible for issuing and registering these codes in Finland. Using the registrant code, the applicant creates and manages their own track- and video-specific ISRC codes and maintains a register of them.
